Mah Jongg Group Forming: Looking for community members interested in starting a biweekly Mah Jongg (Asian Tile Game) night. Monday or Tuesday nights. Will rotate houses for hosting. No previous experience required however looking for some skilled players to instruct. Email hincewicz@aol.com if interested.
Kings Park Band Seeks Members: The Kings Park Band is looking for new adult members, particularly percussion, alto and tenor saxes, euphonium/baritone horns, clarinets, bassoons, and French horn players. March 1: Good Shepherd Preschool will be hosting it's annual Family Festival on March 1st from 10-2. The festival is a combination Thrift Sale of children's item and Fun Fair (carnival). The Fun Fair games are designed for younger kids (face painting, bean bag toss, fish pond, penny toss, etc). We would love to have help running some of the games. March 2: “1964” The Tribute, will be performing at the W.T. Woodson auditorium as the featured fundraiser for Cavalier Cruise 2008 and the Woodson band program. This high-energy group has sold out the Birchmere in Arlington and Carnegie Hall in New York City. Advance-sale tickets are $30/adult, $25/student; at the door, tickets are $35/adult, and $30/student. March 8: 12:00 - 2:00 pm - CrisisLink will host its fifth annual Outback Steakhouse Luncheon & Fashion Show featuring the spring collection from Judy Ryan of Fairfax. Join us as for an afternoon of fun and fashion while enjoying a 3-course meal donated by the Outback Steakhouse. All proceeds from ticket sales benefit CrisisLink’s crisis, trauma, and suicide prevention and recovery programs. After the event, ticket holders will receive a $5 coupon for shopping at Judy Ryan of Fairfax. Additionally, 10% of all Judy Ryan sales on Saturday, March 8 will be donated to CrisisLink. March 9: 10:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m..JCCNV Celebration of the Arts, Public Show and Sale - The Jewish Community Center of Northern Virginia (JCCNV) announces its 9th Annual Celebration of the Arts, bringing together the talents and unique work of more than 50 Israeli and American artists for a show and sale. The event, which draws over 2,000 patrons, will open Saturday March 8 with a special preview event, “Red Hot Night”—advanced registration required. January 15: Spousal Caregivers Support Group: The Well Spouse Association offers a support group on the 3rd Monday of every month from 7-9pm in Supervisor Bulova's meeting room adjacent to the Kings Park Library. WSA is a national nonprofit organization which addresses the needs of spouses caring for a chronically ill or disabled partner. For more info, call Dorothy Saunders at 703-425-2430.
January 17: The Braddock District Council is sponsoring a workshop that evening on Community Safety issues. There will be four sessions (with two sessions running concurrently). All sessions will be held in the Kings Park library, starting at 6:15 p.m. with registration and a light supper. At 7:00 p.m., there will be welcoming remarks and a keynote session. Workshop sessions will begin at 8:00 and 8:45. There will be four sessions (with two sessions running concurrently). Participants will be able to choose two of the following sessions. All participants will then meet to hear summaries of the discussions in the four topic areas. The program will end at 9:45 p.m.
The workshop is open to any resident of the Braddock District. To register in advance, call Supervisor Bulova's office at 703-425-9300.

October 6: Historical Oak Hill in Annandale, Free Tours. The beautiful 1790 era home, Oak Hill, in Annandale will be open for free tours and other activities on Saturday October 6 from noon to 5 pm. The event, described as "Finding Braddock's True Gold", will feature period music, living history demonstrations, children's activities, and story telling, as well as tours of the home. Oak Hill is privately owned but is open to the public once a year under a historic easement. It is set well back from Braeburn Road at the intersection with Wakefield Chapel Road. The entrance is on Wakefield Chapel down a gravel driveway lined with boxwoods that are hundreds of years old.

Second meeting: “Development strategies of the past. What has worked and what has not.” Participants will adopt a Community Resolution on how they would like to see future growth accommodated, and will articulate a "vision" for Braddock and Fairfax County's future. To be held in Supervisor Bulova's meeting room, adjacent to the Kings Park Library.
November 4: Help clean up Long Branch Stream and its banks, with Malcolm Galloway, prospective Eagle Scout, and the boy scouts from Boy Scout Troop 1525. They will start in the area behind Little Run Elementary School, continue through Rutherford Park, across Guinea Road, and along the trail beside Long Branch Steam as far as Woodland Way.
November 6: Informational Meetings on George Mason University's Growth Plans and Neighborhood Issues, sponsored by Supervisor Sharon Bulova to discuss the University’s upcoming plans the the impact on neighboring communities: "Responding to Off-Campus University-Related Issues" and will cover County Zoning Laws and Enforcement; Police Response to Complaints, and Public Notice of Major University Events. November 11: The 14th annual Woodson "Holiday Happenings" Craft Show is Saturday, November 11 from 10 – 4 in the gym. Admission is free. W.T. Woodson High School (9525 Main St., Fairfax, VA 703-321-8373): The craft show is sponsored by PTSA and is one of our biggest fundraisers. More than 100 crafters will be selling their handmade wares, everything from jewelry, ornaments, clothing to paintings, accessories and many other delights! Plenty of parking and entrance are on the east side of the school at Whitacre Road. Snacks for shoppers and lunch for the crafters will be sold by WTW Crew.

November 15: Annual Pool Meeting, 7:00 p.m., Little Run Elementary. The slate of new board nominees will be presented to bonded members for election at the meeting, and the current Board will present budget updates, upcoming events and information. The Pool Board Nomination Committee is hard at work recruiting for the new pool board. Currently looking for nominations for: Aquatics*, Treasurer, Social*, Secretary, Membership* (*=candidates under consideration already). While the current President, VP, Operations and Rules, and Regulations board members have agreed to serve a 2nd term, pool members may nominate other candidates for these posts. All nominations should be submitted to the nomination committee by October 29, 2006. November 16: Little Run Elementary School PTA fundraiser Bingo and game night, with a silent auction! Lots of prizes, raffles, items to bid on and free appetizers and desserts! Doors open at 6:15 p.m., Bingo starts promptly at 7:00 p.m. Cost: $15.00 for 3 sets of Bingo books (12 games each). Additional books will be available for purchase that evening.
